About

Americans in the Crimean War was born in the USA Digital History Labs during the Covid pandemic of 2020-2021. It has received sponsorship from the United States Department of Education and the University of South Alabama, and continues to grow. Authors are professional and independent historians devoted to historical inquiry and outreach. We hope our material will shed light on non-combatant American involvement in war. We also hope to promote further research into the connections between the first modern war in Europe and the devastating United States Civil War that quickly followed. We craft our articles as introductions to the topic, and our subject area bibliographies are offered to help future scholars develop their own projects.

Many people have helped in various ways to bring this site to fruition. We owe special gratitude to History Department Chair Dr. David Messenger, USA Director of International Studies Dr. Christine Rinne, and Spencer Larche, J.D., USA Associate University Counsel.
